We can all learn from simple tasks such as staining a fence which is something I did yesterday with my husband. As I was sanding and then painting my fence I thought of Mr. Miyagi and the karate kid when Daniel had to sand and paint Mr. Miyagi's fence/deck. I agree with sensei that we can all learn from simple repetitive tasks such as sanding, painting or waxing cars. Tasks such as these build character since you have to do the same thing over and over at a certain level of vigor in order to complete the project at hand. While my arms and shoulders hurt after painting the fence for several hours, the feeling after completing the task was a great one. Now I enjoy a gorgeous fence that will stay beautiful for several years until we get the glorious task of staining the fence again. :-)
"Daniel: So? So you're supposed to teach and I'm supposed to learn remember? For four days, I've been busting my ass and I haven't learned a goddamn thing!
Mr. Miyagi: Hah, learn plenty!
Daniel: I've learned plenty! I've learned how to sand your decks maybe! How about wash your cars, paint your house, paint your fence. I've learned plenty!
